Trying new products on your babies pure, fresh skin can be scary! As a mom I’m wondering, how will my baby react? Are there any harmful ingredients? Might the smell be too strong? The list goes on.. Then when there’s an issue- say dry skin or a rash, how do you fix it? What products are best and work the fastest? Here is how I have tackled baby skin care!
My mission
I set out on a mission to find the safest, most trusted products for my little guy. There are quite a few wonderful brands out there that meet my standards. But ultimately, I decided to go for California Baby. California Baby products are 100% plant based, made right here in our home state of CA, and have been trusted since 1995!
I started by ordering just one of their products, the “Calming Cream”, to judge for myself. I obviously love it. Another sweet thing about this brand, is with every purchase they send you 2 free samples of your choice! What a great way to get people to try more of their products. I can honestly say, this brand makes baby skin care a bit easier on us moms! 🙂
Our routine
I am going to go through the routine we use for my son to keep him clean, soft, clear, and protected using our favorite products. There is one product that we use during his night time routine that is NOT California Baby.. Stay tuned!
Sunscreen & Face Wash
First things first, in baby skin care and beyond..Sunscreen! We are always outside with Cruz playing in our yard, walking, hiking, or at the beach. He is now old enough for sunscreen (thank God)! I chose this sunscreen as one of my order samples and it works like a charm. It has a nice consistency, spreads easily, and doesn’t irritate his skin.
When we’re done playing outside I take him in and immediately wash his face and anywhere else I applied sunscreen! This face wash was another sample I chose, and so far so good! I just put a little on a warm, damp wash cloth and wash his face using soft circular motions. I just ordered both of these samples in full size. YAY!
Protection from germs & bugs
The hand sanitizer and bug repellent here are lovely. They smell of fresh squeezed lemons! Both work as intended and are safe for your babies skin and airways- win, win.
Bubble Bath
Cruz and I really enjoy this bubble bath.. yes, I bathe in these bubbles too!:) The combination of lavender and clary sage is soothing and light. Something fun and exciting, this bubble bath comes with a bubble wand! Cruz LOVES bubbles, so while he’s playing in the bubble bath, I blow bubbles for him to watch float through the air. Another added bonus, these bubbles last for the entire bath time and beyond.
Body Wash & Shampoo
The Calendula shampoo and body wash is excellent for all skin types, especially sensitive. Calendula flowers make a great skin potion. These flowers heal booboos, rashes, infection, inflammation and more! Cruz recently got a small amount of cradle cap and this shampoo cleared it right up. This wash also has a great lather to it, so a little bit goes a long way!
Body Lotion
After bath I dry Cruz off and rub this lotion all over his cute little chubby body. Next to the bubbles, I believe this is his favorite part of our clean routine! This everyday Calendula Lotion goes hand in hand with the Calendula wash, our family loves it! I’ve caught James sneakily using this lotion and he’s caught me- lol. I should also mention that the flowers used in the making of these products are grown on California Babies 100 acre certified organic farm, in Santa Barbara. How cool is that?
Face Cream
This is the Calming Cream I mentioned earlier! I use this lotion on Cruz’s face after every bath, as well as every night before bed. This lotion has cleared up any skin irritation my bub has ever had..When Cruz was 2 months old he lost all the hair on top of his head and was left with extremely dry, flakey skin. After a few lathers of this cream, the skin on his head was back to normal! On another occasion, James and I took Cruz on a blooming hike, got home, and discovered he was covered in hives. We gave him a cool bath, using only the Calendula wash, then we put this cream on a few of his hives. After an hour, we noticed the hives we applied the cream to were gone! Needless to say, I highly recommend this cream for any skin irritations on your little.
Night Night
The one product we use that is NOT California Baby.. Every night before bed I massage this Night Night Baby oil, by Chelsey Wang into the skin on Cruz’s chest, as well as mine. The blend of lavender and chamomile smells SO GOOD, we cant get enough of this oil! The smell of this, mixed with his calming cream immediately chills him out and signifies bed time. I have to say, it also makes snuggles so much more delicious. 😉
