Dandelion play-dough: All Natural

Personally, I am so excited to have an all natural play-dough option..and we truly LOVE this dandelion play-dough. Cruz has been waking up earlier and earlier each day, followed by having boatloads of energy! From the get-go Cruz was an active baby, quickly getting bored with the same activities.. So naturally, I’m constantly having to come up with new ways to entertain him. However, I’m not going to lie, it can be a bit challenging at times.. But it’s also fun to find new ways to get him excited! Cue dandelion play-dough.

Find some dandelions

This morning Cruz woke up at 5:45am on the dot. It was already sunny and 60 degrees, so I thought todays the day! I explained to him that after breakfast we were going on a quick adventure filled with fun.. Who knows if he actually understands anything I say, lol, but I know when I say the word ‘adventure’ he smiles with sparkling eyes! So right after breakfast, I got Cruz in his stroller and we walked down the street to our local park where we found lots of dandelions!

Pick the dandelions

I took him out of his stroller and we sat in the grass with dandelions all around us. I began by picking them for him to see and it was only a matter of seconds before he was following along! He’s a natural picker, I think most babies will pick anything in sight. We filled up the bottom of his little beach bucket, you only need about a cups worth for your dandelion play-dough. After a bit of play we walked home for his morning nap!

Gather ingredients for dandelion play-dough

Dandelion play-dough ingredients

While he was napping I made the play-dough! I gathered the ingredients and began by boiling the water.

  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup dandelions
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/3 cup salt
  • 1 tbs cream of tartar
  • sprinkle of ground turmeric
  • 3 tbs coconut oil

Mix dry ingredients

  • Mix the dry ingredients together
  • 1 1/2 cup Flour
  • 1/3 cup salt
  • 1 tbs cream of tartar
  • Sprinkle of turmeric

Blend, mix, knead

  • Add the boiling water and the dandelions to your blender and blend
  • Once they are blended add the liquid to the dry ingredients and mix
  • Add your coconut oil to desired consistency and begin to knead the dough
  • If the dough is too sticky add more flour little by little
  • Knead for about 10 minutes
  • Store it in an airtight container and let it cool

Play with your dandelion play-dough!

When the dough is cooled, it’s play time! You can store your play-dough in an air tight container for up to 3 months. Enjoy! 🙂
